Butera’s in Smithtown, NY – Chicken Meatballs are Heavenly!

We went to Butera’s in Smithtown on the spur of the moment.  Well, after both of us got home from work/appointments and were starving at 7 pm, we looked at each other and realized that the last thing we wanted to do was make dinner.  And it had been months since both of us went there; he went with the guys from work about a month or so ago.

Funny that I got exactly the same meal as his friend John:  Rigatoni with Broccoli Rabe and Chicken Meatballs.  Oh, this dish is just the perfect balance of a ton of garlic with cannellini beans, tomatoes, broccoli rabe and the star of the show is their chicken meatballs – simply amazing and delicious!  There’s an explosion of wonderful flavor in these meatballs and I’ll NEVER tire of them.

My boyfriend Joe got one of the “lighter” dishes – grilled chicken strips, some veggies and linguini, and still this was very tasty…didn’t taste like diet food at all.

Just in case you haven’t been to Butera’s yet, they give you a free appetizer of a cannellini beans hummus with some spices mixed in and of course olive oil, and it comes with some bread stick things (toasted bread) sticking out of the hummus.  I fill up on that and don’t need to order an appetizer, but have tried their fried calamari and it’s great.  The portions for individual entrees are generous; we both left over half of our meals and will have them for dinner tonight!

We also wanted to save room for dessert.  We had the Almond Amaretto Cake with vanilla ice cream…this was also amazing.  Very moist cake and loaded with almond flavor – so if you love almond, you HAVE to try this.

By the way, our server, Nancy, was an extremely warm and nice woman who told me that the dish I ordered was their “signature dish” – the Rigatoni, Broccoli Rabe and Chicken Meatballs.  Their prices won’t kill your wallet, and they have local coupons all the time.

Happy spring!  And happy eating 🙂
